What is anti-psychiatry?

The discussion of the treatment of mental diseases has existed for centuries. The anti-psychiatry movement increases the idea that mental illness is not biologically based, as some mental health experts believe. Many members of this movement also suggest that psychiatric labels may be harmful to the patient and some supporters of anti-psychiatry do not defend the use of drugs to treat mental problems.

Over time, the theory of mental disease treatment emerged from the recommendations of rest and pleasure in nature and art to confront and fight mental illnesses to overcome it. According to some, the idea that mental illness could be mastered and subdued was caused by an institution of mental therapeutic therapeutic substances. Anti-psychiatry joined as a will against the admitted psychiatric theory in the 1960s, when Michel Foucault, R. D. Laing, David Cooper and Thomas Szasz led a movement that questioned the motifs of a psychiatric facility. Claimed that psychiatric treatment was at best defective and that PAcients suffered unfairly categorized.

The most commonly diagnosed mental problem is depression, and while most mental health experts would claim that this disease has a biochemical basis, in the anti-psychiatry movement, there are people who claim that there are no essential evidence to support the biological cause of depression. According to them, the biological basis for depression cannot be demonstrated by blood tests and brain scanning. Some believe in the anti-psychiatry movement that depression is merely the result of a reaction to negative life experience.

Proponents of the Anti-Psychiatry Movement believe that the diagnosis of mental illness may actually be harmful to the patient. In fact, they believe that marking someone as a mentally ill may have a destructive effect on the well -being of a person. Are particularly critical of the prevalencechildren and claims to cause damage to mental health and self -esteem. Some members of anti-psychiatric movement even suggest that schizophrenia is not a real disease.

Anti-psychiatry movement seems to be skeptical about the medical facility. This group is not only mental institutions, but also carefully looked at pharmaceutical companies that develop drugs to treat mental diseases. Despite the skepticism of this movement of medical foundation and drugs used to treat mental illnesses, there are probably many people who would claim that antidepressants and other drugs used to treat mental disorders have helped them live happier and more productive lives.
