What Are Solvent Dyes?
Solvent dyes are colored substances that are insoluble in water and can be dissolved in organic solvents. It is a dye that is insoluble in water but soluble in fats or organic tinctures. Solvent dyes can be divided into two categories: oil-soluble and alcohol-soluble.
- Solvent dyes are colored substances that are insoluble in water and can be dissolved in organic solvents.
- From the perspective of chemical structure, azo dyes are mainly in yellow, orange, brown, and red. There are also bright red xanthene and triphenylmethane dyes. Blue and green are mainly anthraquinone, triphenylmethane, azine, thiazine and phthalocyanine dyes. Nigrosin in the azine series is an important black solvent dye.
- The solvents used are alcohols, ethers, esters, ketones, hydrocarbons and chlorinated hydrocarbons, benzene hydrocarbons, and oils, fats, waxes and the like.
- Divided into three series by solvent type, namely:
- (1) Insoluble in water but soluble in alcohol. Bright color, generally used for coloring alcohols, type A
- (2) Special dye for oil coloring, it is U type
- (3) Dyes suitable for paraffin coloring, type W [1]
- Solvent dyes are mainly used for the coloring of wood and plastics, but also for transparent paints, inks, fats, oils, waxes, soaps, petroleum products and aerosols: aluminum foil, leather, etc. It can also be used for the coloring of pure pulp of synthetic fibers [2] .
