What is the hydrant key?

Hydrant key is a special tool used to access water valves inside fire hydrants or fires. These tools are much larger than standard keys and are made of heavy materials that meet challenges that present fire hydrants. Many firefighters carry several models of hydrant key models to meet the needs of different applications, or to remove valve covers with a wide range of size. Some of these keys can also be adjustable to match different sizes of the plug.

During a fire emergency, firefighters must open the hydrant and combine hoses as quickly as possible to minimize damage and help save lives. Hydrants can make this process more difficult. These hydrants are often made of metal, which may after years of weather exposure to rust or corrode, causing the valves and covers to get stuck. At the same time, hydrant designers must include special covers to protect the hydrant from handling. The hydrant key is designed to solve all tYHTE Potential problems quickly release even the oldest or hardest consumption.

In the United States (USA), fire hydrants are often a large Pentagon -shaped screw. This special screw is difficult or impossible to remove using traditional tools. The Hydrant key in the US often includes a matrix designed to fit around this five -sided screw. It may include a metal rod that can be adjusted to increase or reduce the size of the nut to fit different screws of this design. Firefighters relying on irreparable keys simply carry the choice of sizes to meet the needs of different applications.

Other countries and some parts of the US can rely on another type of connector to connect with valve covers to fire hydrant. These covers require a special key to a dependent or curved profile. This type of hydrant key is sometimes known as the Storz toolor tricoise wrenchzakykřivný valve cover. The hook at one end of the key fits in the groove on the cover and helps firefighters turn the cover and approach the valves below. These curved keys can also be used to release stuck closures that have been removed by the used pentagonal hydrant key, or even to tighten the hose coupling after the hydrant opening.

Hydrant key can also use a handyman or crew outside the fire industry. For example, gas or sewer workers can use these keys to modify large screws that usually occur in these types of applications. A hydrant key is also required to turn on the main water service or to operate the water meter.
