What is extruded polystyrene?

Extruded polystyrene is a type of plastic used to produce products from building materials to storage containers. This product can also be referred to as XPS and after the popular version of the brand of this material is also referred to as styrofoam®. Extruded polystyrene can take the form of thick foam or stronger plastic material depending on application. The polystyrene particles are then melted at high temperatures and then filled with air. This mixture is placed in a mold where it is allowed to cool and harden. It may also be subject to the more traditional process of extrusion, during which it is pushed through the matrix to form the desired shape. This production process gives polystyrene a uniform cell structure and consistent texture throughout the material.

Extruded polystyrene is used to produce a range of different products, including household and industrial goods. It can be shaped to create shipping containers for electronics or shredded to create peanuts for transport and mail. ThisThe material is also used to produce containers for food, as well as for disposable cups and plates. This material is also made of egg cartons, meat tanks and other food storage products, as well as insulation and other building materials. Manufacturers can even use extruded polystyrene to produce molds or caries for metals and other materials.

This material provides a number of advantages over alternative materials in different fields. Its uniform cell structure gives extruded polystyrene to a high level of strength and durability, but this material is also very light. Extruded polystyrene is also easy to cut and shape to create different products or installation for a construction project. It offers a high level of moisture and is not prone to temperature or humidity changes. Extruded polystyrene also provides a high level of versatility in terms of proposaland application.

One disadvantage of this material is its costs, especially compared to alternative materials. When used as an XP building insulator, it usually stands more than traditional glass fiber insulation. When used for food storage, this material comes at a higher price than food containers made of cardboard or other types of plastic. Extruded polystyrene is also considered a potential threat to the environment. This product occupies a large amount of landfill space and recycling programs are relatively limited compared to many other forms of plastic.
