What is underground?

Underground is a method of burial of service wires underground than to operate on the poles over their heads. It is most often used for wires supplying electricity, cable television and telephone signals. The underground protects the wires from wind damage, but can make them more susceptible to flood damage. It tends to be more expensive than installing the same tool wires above the ground. Although the underground prevents visual clutter in wires, it may have a greater environmental effect than above the ground.

There are several methods of installing underground cables. The most commonly used are direct buried and deep drilled tunnels. In order to bury the wires, a ditch must be dug, which is about 5 feet (1.5 m) wide and 4 feet deep (1.2 m). The cable is set in a ditch and surrounded by a firmly wrapped sand set in concrete. This is the least expensive underground method.

If you want to install cables in tunnels with deep wells, the tunnels must be dug at least 80 feet (about24 m) below the ground surface. WallThe tunnel is lined with screwed segments. This is a more expensive method because it requires careful engineering and specialized equipment. Two other methods are rarely used, surface trough and cut and tunnel coverage, but there may be options in some areas.

Some land developers and land owners prefer underground because they hide unsightly wires that would make the landscape less attractive. It also protects the wires from wind damage and debris during extreme weather. However, floods may endanger underground cables if water penetrates into the riverbed or tunnel where cables are located. All underground methods require cables to eventually go to power plants or switching fields that must remain above the ground to be easily accessible techniques. This means that while extreme weather does not affect undergcoming wires, it can still discard services.

Strong insulation causes the cables to maintain heat, so underground wires must be stronger than those used above the ground to reduce electrical resistance and heat.
