What is Chincoteague pony?
Chincoteague pony is a type of wild horse found on the island of Assateague, an island off the coast of the American state of Virginia. The ponies became associated with the neighboring Chincoteague Island as a result of the annual chamber and the sale of ponies that have been held since the 17th century to keep the herd on the island of Assateague. Pony Chincoteague entered the popular consciousness at the end of the 1940s through the Misty Chincoteague , the children's books written by Marguerite Henry. In fact, they are not wild at all, but only wild, which means they come from the population of home horses. The popular legend states that the ponies are descendants of Spanish horses who have escaped from the sinking ship, but in fact have more secular origin, which come from horses released settlers of the region.
