What is the Holy Bernard?

Holy Bernard is one of the giant breeds of the dog. Originally it was bred in Switzerland to be used as a rescue dog for travelers who try to perform a dangerous passage through Alpa from Switzerland to Italy. Dogs continue to be used as rescue animals and working dogs on farms, but the breed also has become a popular family pet and is recognized by the most personal shows and breeding clubs.

Historians are attributed to Saint Bernard de Menton with the foundation of the breed. Most early breeding was probably controlled by monks in the Swiss Alps. The most likely ancestors include Great Dane, Great Pyrenees, a larger Swiss mountain dog and Tibetan mastiff.

dogs are usually white with dark brown to burnt marks or mostly brown with white marks. Holy Bernard can be all white or all brown, but most show organizations require a combination of brands. Red or black signs or red steep with other standard colors are both common and acceptable. Tkabate can beshort or long. The average dog stands between 25.5 and 27.5 inches (between £ 64.8 and 69.9 centimeters) on the shoulder and weighs between £ 130 and 180 (between £ 58.97 and 81.65 kilograms).

As working dogs, the breed is considered intelligent, intuitive and hardworking. Its massive size and strength allows St. Bernard to pull out carts, manual plows and other agricultural tools. It is also a highly capable rescue dog and is still used in the Swiss Alps to find lost tourists and avalanche victims. The dog uses his extremely strong sense of smell to seek victims and his strength to pull them out of the snow.

As a pet is a dog friendly, loyal, patient and protective, but requires significant socialization at a young age. It is strongly recommended by continuing obedience training, because the Holy Bernards were bred as independent dogs who could create their own decisions when they face dangerous conditions.Grooming is mild, but as with most Mastiff family members, owners should expect to deal with significant drooling. Dogs must regularly receive adequate exercises and prefer a large yard or room. They should also be monitored around children because of their large size.

In the exhibition ring, Holy Bernard is usually classified as a working dog or mastiff. Purebred puppies and dogs are available through breeders around the world, but the breed is the most popular in the United States, Canada and Europe. The breed rescue groups are active for these large dogs, because their size and requirements for feeding can lead to neglect and abandonment, especially in economically demanding time.
