What is sugar pine?
Sugar Pine is a member of the Pinaceae family, located in the northwest part of Mexico, as well as parts of California and Oregon in the United States. Sugar pine is considered to be the largest of all kinds of pine curls and is characterized by pine cones, which are noticeably longer than cone produced by other types of pines. Sugar pine are considered part of the white pine class. In some cases, the taste of the sap or resin compared to the maple trees, which is used to produce maple sugar. However, there has never been a bulk syrup or sugar made of sugar pines.
The size of sugar pine are as impressive as the size of the pine cones produced by the trees. It is possible for one tree to reach a height from 130 to 200 feet (40-60 meters). The tree trunk can also be impressive and in most cases reach a diameter of 5 to 8 feet (1.5-2.5 meters). There are records that indicate that pine sweets have reached a diarrheaMeals up to 11 feet (3.5 meters).
While she considered herself one of the most impressive of all pine, sugar pine was once in danger of disappearing. The fungus known as the rust of white pine was unintentionally transplanted on the Pacific coast of North America during the first years of the 20th century. The sponge has a devastating effect on the pine sugar factory and kills the whole part of the forest.
Over time, the efforts to create pine sugar factories have encountered a certain success. Efforts financed privately and in the United States Forestry tried to re -introduce a sugar pine into areas where the Tree previously flourished. Projects of this type are underway, but show signs of success over the next few decades.
Before the introduction of a rusty fungus, sugar pine was considered a strong wood that could be used for construction purposes, as well as for the creation of household equipment. SugarThe pine could be harvested and divided for use in the production of framing chairs and sofas, dining tables and even porch swings. The trunks were also harvested and milled into the lumber of pine, which was suitable for use as a floor and external tiles on a number of houses from the 19th and early 20th century. Due to the endangered tree, there is a small harvest of sugar pines for use in wood or building processing.
