What are wine?
The wine barrel serves as an aging and storage facility for wine. These barrels are usually made of wood and are able to pass the wine properties, especially affecting the taste and color of the finished product. Wine barrels are usually made by qualified barrels or "Coopers" using craft wood techniques improved for centuries.
People have a long history with wine growing. In ancient Greece, the wine was carried and served in amphoras, ceramic vases that had spiritual and practical value. Along with amphora is the stories of ancient companies also using early forms of barrels. Unfortunately, due to short life and natural deterioration of wine barrels, there are no artifacts of timely use. Since the wood is porous, it allows some oxygen to mix with the wine, leading to a softened drink that loses part of the bite of and the acidity of young wines. The wine can also be changed in taste, depending on the composition process and completion used on the barrel. PThe interior of the wood is burned. The burning process provides wine with some characteristics of taste and barrels can usually be ordered with different toast levels. Depending on the type of grapes used in wine, winemakers may prefer light, medium or heavy toasts.
oak is wood for most wine barrels. Although other forests are sometimes used, very few alternatives provide oxygenation or flavors that oak can. The most commonly used are the types of timber used to produce wine barrels, acacia and chestnut wood.
wine barrels have a relatively short lifetime, they last for less than ten years. After that point, the barrel can still serve as a storage unit, but it will not lend the taste of wine and can increase porosity. Shaving of the inner layers of wood and re -firing can mainly prolong life, but more often the old barrels are given to other uses, such as garden growers.
Depending on the retention capacity and material used, the price of the barrel may vary somewhat. Bars made of French oak are usually the most expensive and can cost over $ 1,000 (USD) per barrel. Wine barrels from the United States are usually much cheaper and cost about half than the French oak barrel. The barrels are available for purchases from individual teams and many modern companies now run a website for its products.
