What is Borassus?

One genus of six species of Palms, Borassus or Palmyra Palm fans is a widely cultivated palm of original in Asia, Africa and New Guinea. Borassus can be identified by its fan -shaped leaves that can grow up to 10 feet in length (about 3 m). The tree often reaches a height of about 100 feet (30 m) and the life of the tree can be up to 100 years. Borassus Palm is a valuable source of food, timber and that for weaving projects. The inhabitants of the regions, where Borassus's palms grow, process each part of the tree and use its number in hundreds. It is held in a large way because of its versatility and sustainability and it is the official tree of this state. In Cambodia, Borassus is a national emblem of flora, with many trees growing around the Temple of Angkor Wat. Borassus has no successfully cultivated in North America or Europe because of its sensitivity to cold. It takes up to 20 years to maturity for trees.
