What is Fothergilla?
Fothergilla, also called the witch Alder, is a small family of the Hamamelidaceae family plant, which has only two, or perhaps up to three, different species that are originally from the southeastern part of the United States. The genus is named after the doctor Quaker, John Fothergill, who also watched the botany. All species of this genus are flowering, woody shrubs that are deciduous, which means that their leaves change the color in the autumn before throwing away from the plant. Fothergilla shrubs can be purchased at kindergartens and are usually grown as decorative garden shrubs. They have dark leaves that are often green or blue -green colors and pointed white to white flowers.
The two most common types of Fothergilla are F. Major, also called the great witches of Olše and F. Gardennia or the dwarf witches of Olš. A possible third species, called F. Monticola or Alabama Fothergilla, is sometimes concentrated with the species F. Major. Great witches grow slowly, falling asleep reaching a height of about four to 10 feet tall (just over one to three meTry). Dwarf Witch Alders are also a slowly growing species and usually reach a maximum height of about three feet (one meter). Plants Alabama Fothergilla can grow as high as the Great Witch's alder, and therefore are sometimes considered the same species.
These shrubs are generally easy to grow and maintain. It seems that most species stand well against insect contamination and are also resistant to many types of plant diseases. They also tolerate extreme temperatures, the surviving period of the cold during the winter, as well as the high heat period in the summer months, and although they are forest plants, they rarely require any kind of pruning. The only special measure must take the Fothergilla shrub grower. Most species of this genus naturally grow in marshy areas, hence their demand for wet soil.
Fothergilla shrubs are attractive decorative plants due to their white or cream flowers. Those toThe sentences are often described as reminiscent of bottles on the bottles because of their pointed petals. Flowers usually bloom in clusters between the late winter months and the center of spring and have a pleasant sweet scent. The leaves appear on Fothergilla shrubs later than flowers and are usually dark green. In the autumn, these leaves change brilliant colors such as red, gold and orange before they fall from branches of shrubs.
