What Is a Tunable Laser?
The tunable laser technology refers to the flexible allocation of wavelengths on the ONU side, avoiding the use of different types of optical modules for different ONUs, and the use of tunable lasers at the transmit end of the ONU's optical modules to achieve colorlessness on the ONU. Tunable lasers also work at specific wavelengths, but the wavelength can be tuned by auxiliary means, so that the same laser can be used in the system to produce different working wavelengths. Therefore, in this solution, all ONUs are the same, and there is no longer a storage problem. In use, each ONU is tuned and configured in accordance with a predetermined wavelength plan to make it emit light of a specific wavelength. [1]
