What is M4R?

M4R is a proprietary extension of the Apple® file exclusively for use as a ring tone for iPhone®. Like other similar files such as M4A and MP4, it is a high quality, compressed audio file. M4R files are short audio files-in-permanently 30 seconds or less. Users can buy songs at iTunes® specifically as ringing tones and files that they buy will be M4R.
