What is optoda?

Optode is an optical sensing device capable of measuring many aspects of the substance - commonly in the air or submerged - if the user points the device on the fabric. Three parts are obliged to work optod; One of them is a polymer that captures a substance to be measured. A chemical or energy signal is applied to the captured substance that causes a reaction based on what is measured. After reaction, electronic components calculate the reaction and create a numerical or color representation. Optode is able to measure many values such as phosphorescence, absorption and oxygen, and most of the measurements include light.

In order to react, the optode must first capture the fabric. This can be done by pointing the device on the fabric, but it is unreliable. Without something that keeps the captured substance, the device can escape, leading to inaccurate values. Instead, a polymer is used to connect with the fabric and force to throw in the device. If measurements are calculated, the polymer does not affect the reaction.

It must be exposed to another substance to cause a reaction. This second substance is determined by what optode measures and what is the captured substance. Some optodes may skip the reacting substance in favor of using a power source or light that causes a reaction based on the amount of energy, even if these units are unusual.

As soon as the reaction occurs, it must be represented for users to understand the measurement. This is done by electric components inside optod. By collecting information from the reaction, electronics create either color or numerical representation. For example, the device can emit red light to show the reaction, has a high phosphorescence. Numerical representations are more accurate, but this busts the costs of the device and may not be practical, depending on what is measured.

Optod is able to measure many substances and reactions, but the most common measurement is based on light. If, for exampleEb knows how much light the substance absorbs or repels, this device can measure the exact amount. Another common use of this device is to check the amount of oxygen in water based on its concentration and saturation. For easy data obtaining, most Optode units can be connected to a computer that immediately receives measurements and readings.
