What is VHS-C?

VHS-C is a format for a compact video cassette VHS. It was introduced as a way to reduce the size of the home video cadet, which previously required space for placing large coils of the film or tapes that had a limited recording time. Although still used, the format has largely been replaced by digital formats. First, there was a demand for smaller and thus more transparent camcorders for using the consumer. Secondly, the VHS format began to appear as the most popular format for home video for home video. There are some claims that Panasonic originally developed the VHS-C format for use in portable video records, but it is not clear how much the truth is in this. The cartridge is approximately 25% of the total blown VHS, measuring 2.3x 3.6 x 0.8 inches (5.8 x 9.2 x 2 centimeters). The cartridge can record up to 40 minutes in standard format and 120 minutes in an extended game that has lower image quality.

One of the main sales points of the VHS-C format was that it did not require any conversion to play back to the TV set. This is because users can simply put the cassette into an adapter that is the same shape and size as the standard VHS tape, and play it in the VHS machine. The adapter works purely mechanically, rather than converting the content. It simply loosens the tape to the correct length and location for VHS players.

The format eventually lost attraction with the formats of digital record. These include mini-DV, which originally used cassettes. Later, the tape recording lost even greater attraction due to the increased popularity of recording formats that used optical disc or small hard drives. This shift in trends on the market has been enhanced by the extended adoption of players to the consumer, making trucks based on the more attractive disk.

Although VHS-C has lost great popularity, it is still supported by the consumer electronics industry. Since 2011 there is a newVHS-C cameras available for several hundred dollars, with cheaper models used. Although and when the format loses any attraction in the main markets, its low price will mean that it will survive on the emerging markets.
