What is a biomedical engineer?

Biomedical engineer examines and develops new medical equipment through its knowledge of biology, medicine, technology and mechanical engineering. It could create new prosthetic devices, artificial organs or metal joint substitutes for hips, shoulders and knees. Biomedical engineer also improves the safety and efficiency of hospital equipment such as medical resonance imaging (MRI) and X -ray machines. The engineer can spend months exploring a specific tool, such as MRI machine to learn about its complicated parts and processes. It then invent a plan to make the machine safer, more efficient and easier to use. A biomedical engineer could prepare plans for a new machine and cooperate with a team of technicians to design a prototype device. Once the prototype can be sold and implemented in healthcare facilities in several laboratory and clinical trials. Biomedical engineer considers the most common problems that patients face, such as heart problemy, and design tools that can be used to prevent or overcome their problems. For example, the artificial heart was the product of years of intensive biomedical research. It is now used all over the world to help people overcome life -threatening heart conditions.

To become a biomedical engineer, it is usually necessary to obtain at least a bachelor's degree in the field of engineering, although many research and development institutions prefer scientists with a master's or doctoral title. University students usually major in mechanical engineering, although they often complete more classes in biology, chemistry and medicine to complement their utilities. Many graduates occupy the positions of internships in research facilities where they learn first to create and implement new devices. Some states and countries require new engineers to pass a license examination to carry out independent research and develop new products.

Experienced biological engineers are generally very demanded to apply the latest technologies and principles to create safe and effective medical devices. The growing population of elderly and wounded war veterans creates an immediate need for new equipment, including prosthetic equipment and wheelchairs. Experienced biomedical engineers ensure that people can live as comfortable and independently as possible by providing them with the latest medical technology.
