What is polycarbonate resin?

polycarbonate (PC) resin is thermoplastic, polymer, which after heating liquefaction, and then creates a glass structure when cooling. It is used in various applications that require high stress resistance and heat resistance. Polycarbonate resin can be seen when creating compact discs, plastic parts of cars, eye wear and bullet -armor. Most polycarbonate resins are derived from condensation polymerization of phosgen and bisphenol and (BPA). The reaction is and leaves the polymer, in this case a polycarbonate resin, which has both a carbonate group containing a carbon molecule and three oxygen molecules and a by -product of small water molecules. When combining phosgen and BPA, this process is catalyzed by adding sodium hydroxide to BPA to start the process.

Polycarbonate resin, the final polymer that is created has a very high tolerance to stress and can be heated to a high degree without breaking. This creates a strong substance that is velMi trade, unlike other thermoplasts that are often fragile and breaking if they are stretched or too tension. The big advantage is that it can be created on a specification without having to have a mold or press formed, which is invaluable in creating initial prototype designs.

The primary use for polycarbonate resin is in the electronic field because it makes a great insulator and does not melt at high temperatures. In addition to the electronics field, it is widely used in materials used for construction, such as dome of light. Because it can be made in sheets and the use of injection molds, it can be produced in bulk to create different items, including compact disks for advertising brands. It also has a wide range of of of the cars and aircraft, because it is not only smooth but can also be transparent.

One deficiency of polycarbonate resin isthat it's easy to scratch. If used to make glasses or any other transparent materials subject to scratches, it must have another coating that is protected. Laminating is used to create bulletproof glass.

The most important problem with polycarbonate resin is the use of BPA. Many PC resin products are produced with BPA, such as water bottles and storage containers. BPA has been found to be endocrine disruption, which means that it can cause various problems that endocrine systemic effects such as congenital defects, cancer and neurological disorders. Despite the associations, attempts to ban or restrict the use of BPA were met with mixed results worldwide.
