What is UV bulb?
UV (UV) bulb is a relatively general term to describe most types of lamps capable of producing ultraviolet light. UV light is a short wave form of electromagnetic radiation, which is generally invisible to the mere eye. It occurs naturally in sunlight and is created artificially in electrical arches and ultraviolet lamps. Common types of UV flask include fluorescent tubes, black light and gas drain lamps. UV lamps have a wide range of uses including medical and cosmetic treatments, pest control, safety verification and cure of certain adhesives.
Ultraviolet light has wavelengths between 10 and 400 nanometers, which place it at a higher frequency of ringing than in violet light, hence its name. UV bulb usually consists of a glass envelope containing a pressure mixture of inert gases and a small amount of mercury. This glass envelope also contains an electric fiber covered with carefully formulated and applied phosphor layer. When the bulb is under voltage, the inert gases transmit the charge to the mercury, causing the reaction in the atomic structure and the production of UV radiation. The phosphor coating effectively examines this radiation to allow the emitting of certain wavelengths of the UV light depending on the coating structure. The manipulation of the composition of this phosphor layer allows very accurate control of the volume and nature of the emitted UV light.
