What factors affect Toprol XL dosing?

Toprol XL® is a prolonged form of releasing generic drug Metoprolol succession produced by Astrazenec® and aims to allow patients to reduce the frequency of the drug. This drug is used to treat a number of different cardiovascular symptoms, including heart failure, angina pectoris and most commonly high blood pressure. The recommended initial dose of Toprol XL® varies somewhat according to the condition used for treatment, age of the patient and drug regime. Unlike many forms of many drugs for extended release, the XL® Toprol can be safely divided into half along the score in the tablet without damaging the enteric coating regulating the releasing of the drug. This allows significantly more control over dosage than some other drugs.

When using the drug as a supplement to existing heart failure, the dose of all drugs must be stabilized before the introduction of Toprol XL®. Initial XL®SAGE for adults with heart failure II should be 25 mg administered orally twice a day. Maybe a counterIntuitively, the initial dose should be limited to 12.5 mg once daily in patients with more serious heart failure. Dosage of Toprol XL® should be doubled every two weeks to 200 mg per day or to a point where it is no longer possible to tolerate. If the increase in dosing of Toprol XL® is not initially well tolerated, it can try again after more time.

Adult patients with angina can respond well to an initial dose of 100 mg administered in one dose each day. The dose may be increased in small increments once a week up to a maximum of 400 mg daily. Dosage to Toprol XL® should not be increased if the drug creates a significant reduction in heart rate.

Toprol XL® is most commonly used as a treatment for high blood pressure. Adult patients who receive medicines for this purpose should be administered by the initial dose of Toprol XL® between 25 and 100 mg daily per dose. Increasing the initial doseUp to the maximum daily dose of 400 mg can be evaluated as needed, although not more than once a week. The effects of increasing the Toprol XL® dose may not be noticeable for seven days after its start. The standard dose of Toprol XL® for pediatric patients over six years of age has not been determined since 2011 because this population has not been shown to be effective.
