The scientific name is Ulmus rubra or U. fulva. Large leaves, hard wood, scented inner trunk, and gelatinous substance inside the bark.
Elm from eastern North America.
Because it is part of the Pharmacopoeia of Chinese Herbal Medicine for Alternative Medicine, it appears in a variety of prescriptions for discomfort, so it has regained attention.
