What is an American sole?

American sole is a type of flat fish from the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean off the southeast coast of North America. This type of flat fish is of low value for the commercial fishing industry, although it is edible and said it was tasty. The American Sole Flatfish is sometimes kept like pets from aquariums.

The American sole belongs to the family Achiridae , which includes at least nine families. Twenty -eight different species of this fish can be found inhabiting Mexican Gulf and the Western Atlantic Ocean. Some species live in fresh water, while others prefer brackish water. Most American feet, however, inhabit salt water.

These fish have previously been classified as soleidae , a family that includes most of the types of flounder, but was later overwhelmed when scientists realized that these flat fish did not have all the defining characteristics of the Founder. American soles, unlike most Flounder species, lacks breast fins. The gathe and ocaThe fins of American soles are generally connected together. Most scientists believe that American single species actually have a line different from members of the family of Soleidae .

6 Unripe American feet have their eyes on both sides of their bodies and swim upright, as most non-flatfish do. As these fish ripen, the left eye moves to the right side of the body and the body itself levels, so the fish begin to swim with the left side of the body down, in the fashion of typical flat fish.

These fish, as well as other soles, have a fins. The dorsal fin is usually extended along the whole body of the fish, from the tip of the head to the fused breast fins. The right sides where the eyes are found can be olive green or brownish color. These fish often have spotted or irregular brown brands on an otherwise green body and some species can control color changes to mask themselves. ATOther vertical belts usually pass through the right side of the body of the American sole, while the left or underside is often white or pale color.

American outsole is not commercially hunted, although many people consider them good to eat. They usually feed on small water creatures, including worms, shrimp and small fish. They can usually be held as pets if they are nourished on a live diet similar to the one ate in the wild.
