What are the cells of the nerve ridge?
nerve ridge cells are migration cells responsible for the formation of many different anatomical structures placed throughout the body. They are formed during the development of embryo from ectoderm nerve tube along the nerve plate. These cells are specific to vertebral organisms. The nerve ridge cells are divided into four different types: cranial, heart, trunk and vagal cells of the nerve ridge.
During embryonic development, the nerve ridge is formed shortly before the nerve tube - the beginning of the central nervous system - closes and closes. This signals cells to undergo the epithelial mesenchymal transitional phase, separating from the ectoderm of the nervous plate before migration throughout the body of the vertebrate. Transient cells eventually begin to form pigment cells, cartilage, smooth muscles, nerves and bones. The migration of these cells stops when it encounters a barrier, such as blood vessels or cellular clusters.CIACE CULL ON SPECIFIC ANATOMICAL STRUCTURE. Now they are called the cells of cranial nerve ridges, contribute to the formation of connective tissues, cartilage and skeletal structures of heads and facial elements. Nerves and some pigment cells are also formed by cells of cranial nerve ridges.
Some of the nerve ridge cells will continue to travel to other parts of the body. Ganglie in the digestive system is largely formed by cells of vagal nerve ridges. An integral part of the heart, called aorticopulmonary septum, consists of cell nerve ridge cells.
The neural ridge trunk forms part of the sensory nerves and ganglia of the sympathetic nervous system. Other stem cells migrate on the skin where they create cells producing pigment called melanocytes. The melanin -made pigment is further divided into two types, eumelanin and feomelanin. The presence of eumelanine has a follow -upto various shades of brown and black pigments. Feomelanine causes the development of yellow and red pigments.
Malformed cells of the nerve ridge can lead to craniophacial deformations commonly associated with congenital conditions such as Treacher-Collins syndrome. Nerve tube defects occur before the eighth week of pregnancy when many women may not be pregnant. Most women are recommended to initiate a daily supplement of folic acid and prenatal vitamins for several months before trying to conceive to prevent the occurrences of the nerve tube defects.
