What is a follicular cell?
follicular cells are cells in the shape of tubes responsible for the production of certain hormones and substances. These cells usually compress together and create a visible tube that holds a structure similar to hair. There are three types of follicular cells in the human body: thyroid epithelial cells, ovarian follicles and hair follicles. Each type of follicular cell is placed in a different part of the body and is responsible for the production of various substances. In men and women there are epithelial cells and hair follicles thyroid, but ovarian follicles occur only in women.
thyroid epithelial cells, sometimes called the principle of cells, are placed in the thyroid gland. The human thyroid is located at the base of the neck and is covered with a small pocket of hard cartilage. Small, hair follicular cell groups are seated in the core of the gland and harvest amino acids and iodine from the body fluids that pass them. These cells then transform amino acids into thyroglobulv proteins that help thyroid function. WITHFollicular cell domes can also transform iodine and amino acids into thyroid hormones that pass through blood to help the body regulate metabolism and excrete waste.
ovarian follicular cells are similar to thyroid epithelial cells in shape and function. These tube -shaped structures are found around the ovary inside, secreting and containing eggs. Each immature egg or oocyte is contained in a group of follicular cells for about 28 days while maturing. Then the cells release the eggs to the center of the ovary, where it slips down the egg tube and into the uterus. Once there, the egg may or may not be fertilized. Either way, follicular cells in the ovaries are busy reading another egg for departure.
hair follicles are perhaps the largest type of follicular cell. Every mammal has hair follicles somewhere on their bodies. In mammals living in the ocean with theseFollicles can only discover around the nose or lips, while hair follicles on mammals living on the ground are usually present all over the entire creation. Mammals like cats, dogs, otters and horses have hair follicles all over the body. Elephants and rhinos have follicular cells that produce stronger, thinning hair. How hair is made in animals depends mainly on the environment and what hair animals need.
