What is the theory of information?

Theory of information is a process that focuses on the task of quantification of information. Information quantification is achieved by identifying viable methods of data compression and communication without the cause and degradation of data integrity. The theory of information can be used in a number of different areas, including quantum calculation, data analysis and cryptography.

The origin of modern information theory is usually attributed to Claud E. Shannon. His work Mathematical Theory of Communication , for the first time published in 1948, sets the basis for quantification and compression of data into viable units, which can later be stored for easy search. Its basic approach has provided tools necessary to increase the efficiency of computer systems of early mainframes and easily translated into desktop computers in a decade of 70 years.

As a branch of both electrical engineering and applied mathematics, the theory of information is made to reveal the most effective methods of data transfer within the limits associated with its own data. The aim isEnsure that the mass transit does not reduce the quality, even if the data is in some way compressed. Ideally, the data can be restored to their original form after reaching the target. In some cases, however, the aim is to allow data in one form for mass transmission, received at the moment of termination and easily converted to a different format other than the original without losing any of the transmitted information.

One of the applications of information theory that many people will know is the use of ZIP files to compress documents for transmission via e -mail or as part of data storage procedures. Data compression allows you to complete the transmission for a shorter time. At the end of the receiving end, the software is used to release or unpack the folder and restore documents contained in the ZIP file to their original format.

The theory of information is also used with other types of files. For example, sound and VIDeo files that are played on the MP3 player are compressed for easy downloading and storage on the device. When accessing, files are expanding and available for use immediately.

Many other devices and modern technological advances that people use daily are made possible by the application of information theory. Internet access and features would not be possible without theory of information. Similarly, the storage capacity of the compact disk is directly connected using this theory.
