What Is a Chamber of Commerce?
The Chamber of Commerce is an inevitable product of the commodity economy. - Yiwu is located in the middle of Zhejiang. Dongyang River crosses Yiwu via the Lanxi River and enters the Qiantang River. There have long been ships directly to Hangzhou, and then the Zhejiang-Jiangxi railway traverses Yiwu, making transportation more convenient and the geographical environment superior. So Anhui, Fujian, Shaoxing and other foreign merchants moved to Yiwu to settle business. In the 1890s, chambers of commerce representing business interests first appeared in Shanghai, Hangzhou and other places, and Yiwu Chamber of Commerce emerged as the times require. It was initially called the Chamber of Commerce, which is a preliminary stage of preparation. It became a formal chamber of commerce in 1916 and was named "Yiwu County Chamber of Commerce". The meeting place is located in Fuci Temple, Taimen Street, Qianxian County (the first guest house of the municipal government today). Due to the expansion of conference affairs, funds were collected near the tower of Daan Temple, the original Daan Temple address, and 9 buildings were built, with conference halls and offices (demolished as a cultural center during the Cultural Revolution).
- In 1916, the Yiwu County Chamber of Commerce was established, and the first president Lou Huchen (named Bingwen). Lou was re-elected for 12 years.
- In 1928, Chen Naixun, the son of a well-known figure Chen Chen, took over. Chen is in office for 6 years.
- In 1934, Hu Chundao (Xingfu) took over. Hu opened the Hu Yiyang Sauce Garden Store for a term of 5 years. He served as a fundraiser for the new location of the Construction Chamber of Commerce.

- After the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan, the county government ordered the restoration of the chamber of commerce, making Gong Chen, Ji Jingming, Hu Chundao, Wang Huirong, Mei Yongwu, Fang Bingrong, and Yang Heqing the organizers of the chamber of commerce.
- The fifth meeting of the organizers was held on November 30, 1945, and it was decided that a member congress would be held on the 21st of the same month. At that time, 46 people would attend the meeting. On the 23rd, a meeting of directors and supervisors was held, and five executive directors were elected, with Ji Jingming as the chairman (that is, the chairman).
