  • Manual wiring service refers to the manual connection of incoming calls to the exchange by the operator, without dialing.
  • Dial-up service refers to the exchange mode in which the dialed number is automatically connected by the switch.

  • Telephone exchange refers to the equipment used in the switching process.
  • Concentrator refers to the concentrator itself, regardless of whether it is integrated in the switch.
  • Lifting means that the circuit is in the "in use" state.
  • On-hook means that the circuit is idle.
A combination switch is inherently very fault tolerant. If a sub-switch crashes, the control computer will discover it during periodic inspections. The computer then marks all links to the sub-switch as "occupied." This prevents new calls from entering the switch and does not interrupt calls that are still in progress. In this way, after these calls are ended, the sub-switch is no longer used. After some time, a technician will replace the circuit board. If the next test is successful, the connection to the repaired sub-switch will be marked as "idle" and the switch will resume all functions.
In order to prevent some undetectable errors, the links between all layers in the switch are allocated through a first-in, first-out queue. In this way, if a user picks up and redials, they will be served by different links between the sub-switches. Last-in-first-out link assignment may cause users to always fail to dial. [1]
