How Do I Recognize Botulism Symptoms?
Also called soft neck disease, botulism, western duck disease. A poisoning disease caused by eating exotoxin produced by Clostridium botulinum. The pathogen is Clostridium botulinum, Gram-positive, produces toxins under anaerobic conditions, and has spores. Avian toxins are type A, type C, and type E toxins. Type C toxin is the most powerful and most widely distributed. Chickens, ducks, geese, ostriches, pheasants and fires are mainly caused by type C. The toxin is highly heat resistant and cannot be destroyed in the stomach. The bacteria are found in soil, sludge and feces.
