What is cervical stenosis?

Cervical stenosis is the spinal state characterized by the narrowing of the spinal canal in the uterine vertebra. At the top of the spine there are uterine vertebrae at the upper back and neck. Stenosis may also occur in other areas of the spine, such as lumbar vertebrae. Cervical stenosis can be a very serious health problem, as well as many other backbone conditions, and there are a number of ways to approach the treatment, depending on how far it proceeded.

The most common cause of cervical stenosis is simply wear on vertebrae. As people age, padding between their vertebrae, known as discs, becomes less flexible, and their vertebrae tends to start compressing discs. Some people develop bone spurs on the inside of the vertebrae and these bone spurs protrude into the spinal canal, causing it to shrink. If it narrows sufficiently, the spinal cord will damage. Spinal cord damage is known as myelopathy and Toauses some very significant symptoms.

Someone with cervical stenosis experiences anesthesia, armor and occasional shooting pain, because the nerves are clamped and compressed in a narrowed backbone channel. This is known as cervical radiculopathy. If the condition is not solved, serious long -term damage may occur and the patient's pain often increases much worse. Hrda stenosis often occurs gradually and sometimes symptoms occur for a long time, which is important to see a doctor when the neck pain, numbness and armor occurs, even if the symptoms are intermittent.

In order to diagnose cervical stenosis, the doctor will generally talk to the patient to obtain information about his history and order a number of medical imaging studies. These images reveal the narrowing of the spinal canal. The physician can also perform some neurological tests to check the nervaries and to determine how far the stenosis proceeded.

If cervical stenosis is caught inEarly stages, can sometimes be managed by medicines and targeted physical therapy. These treatments may slow down or stop the narrowing of the spinal canal and at the same time eliminate many unpleasant symptoms of stenosis. If the condition has progressed or non -surgical methods are not effective, the physician will recommend surgery. During surgery, the pressure on the spinal cord will be released by removing some bone spines to expand the spinal canal.
