What is sexualization?

Sexualization is a process by which a person, a group of people or object is considered as a sexual nature. The sexualization of girls and women is particularly concerned and cultural relevance due to its prevalence in many aspects of modern culture and because of the psychological impacts that can have sexualized individuals. It is also a concern for children, whether as a result of exposure to highly sexual media or as a result of the child's upbringing, an inappropriate level of sexuality may be prematurely placed on the child.

The American Psychological Association (APA) defined the four main points that can be used to distinguish sexualization from healthy sexuality. Any of these criteria can provide evidence for sexualization; It is by no means necessary to present all four. The first point states that the individual has been sexualized if one establishes a significant part of his own value on sexual behavior or appearance of other qualities or behavior. The second quality that sexualized individuals commonly owned is a belief, that physical attraction and sexual attraction are the same and the same and that there are no other elements for physical attraction.

The last two properties of sexualization are based primarily on the treatment of other sexualized individuals. If others sexually objectify individuals using this person solely for sexual purpose, such as pornography or prostitution, this person was sexualized. Sexualization also occurs when one individual imposes sexuality to another without the consent of the first individual. This happens, for example, when children are exposed to highly sexual materials or behavior.

Especially sexualization, but not exclusively, was associated with various psychological disorders and mental recovery problems that are almost ubiquitous in modern society. Eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa, low self -esteem and depression of different levels of severity are onAn example often closely linked to the first two points APA defining sexualization. People are constantly exposed to the stream of pictures and videos of highly sexualized media girls, many of whom seem to be very thin, have perfect skin and wear expensive clothes. Although it is unrealistic to imitate these images, such images can inspire strong feelings of insufficiency that can lead to many different psychological conditions, including those above.
