What Is Traumatic Stress?
Post-traumatic stress disorder refers to the sequelae of a disordered psychological state of a person after encountering or confronting major stress. These experiences include threats to life, severe physical harm, physical or mental coercion. Sometimes referred to as post-traumatic stress response to emphasize that this phenomenon is a reasonable consequence of experiencing trauma, not that the patient's mental state was originally problematic. Also translated as post-traumatic stress disorder, post-traumatic stress syndrome, post-traumatic stress disorder, and major sequelae. [1]
