What are the practical applications for exabytes?

EXABYT is a very large unit of storage space, 10 18 bytes. These are a billion gigabytes, a million terabytes or a thousand petabytes. The term "exaTy" tends to be used in a way of a similar way to the term "terawatt" - to quantify the degree in all humanity, such as the amount of information that humanity generates throughout the year. The practical use of the word exabyt began at the end of the 90s, because the Internet was balloon in size and the study was performed on historical measurements of information production.

One of the first estimates used by the term "exabyt" was a study of Berkeley, which tried to quantify the sum of knowledge produced by man, including all sound, video and textbooks/books, at the end of the 20th century. The value came about 12 exits. Due to the increased storage capacity of computers, we are able to store much more information we generate, but the availability of storage space itself encourages us to create information faster. A newer study, which was completed in 2007 International Data Corporation, suggested that in 2006 we created 161 data exits, although it is taken into account by duplicates. Ignoring duplicates is a character closer to 50 exabytes. We are currently creating data faster than we can store, and as a result we have motivated to maintain the development of digital storage technologies.

One popular use of the term exabyt involves quantification of all spoken human words. Converted to text, this is estimated to be approximately 5 data. If it is digitized as a 16-bit sound as 16 kHz, it is estimated that the value would be much higher, approximately 42,000 exbais. In the popular TV series Star Trek , the character data was reported to have a storage capacity of 0.1 exits. In fact, a real human brain can have a storage capacity significantly lower than this, perhaps even several orders of size.

Today, buying the exabyte of storage space would cost about $ 500 million in US dollars (USD). Storage capacity of all world computers is in tens of exits. However, the cost of storage space is reduced almost every year, so that the amount of disk space we can afford will also double. If the current price drop continues, by 2025 we will be able to buy Exabji disk space for just $ 4,000. We may be tempted to say that it is more than enough disk space for anyone, but the history of humanity with non -hating and data generation suggests that there may be some files that even the exabyte unit cannot contain.
