What is the home directory?
Home directory is a directory of computer file system for a specific user. It contains all personal documents and media files of the user, its tabs, cache and in the case of Windows computer, its configuration of Start menu and desktop computer. Properly configured computer can have homemade directors adapted to each of several users. The home directory also provides the user its own space in which you can store personal files. More importantly, it prevents user files from taking up valuable space in the root directory that is the highest directory - and the one that uses the system administrators to access fast system files. Computer systems with Microsoft Windows operating system name user name after username and save it in the folder called Documents and Settings. In the folder, the user files are also categorized to specific subdirectories such as my documents, my pictures, my music, the Start and Desktop menu. WITHYstems based on Unix and Mac OS X also establish a home directory on the username of a particular user, although the specific content of each is different. For example, Macintosh computers do not have a folder of my documents.
Regardless of the operating system, the home directory is used to protect privacy, reduce data reduction and maintain strict security. If the user accidentally access the virus or worm, for example, there will be the only influenced thing that is the user files, all of which are stored in the home directory. This prevents damage to real system files, which in turn simplifies the cleaning process for system administrators.
Home Directories also simplifies the backup production process. All the user has to do is to create a copy of his home folder. This allows him to easily carry his files and settings from one computer to another.
Home directory are particularly ODLitzy in large networks, as the system administrators make it easier to manage all user files. Users also make it more comfortable. Each user is usually equipped with a home directory that is stored on the central server. When a user logs in to any computer that is tied to the network, the home directory is pulled out and used to set the interface according to pre -configured user preferences. If the administrator needs access to user files, it can simply log in directly to the central server.
