What is an autonomous system?

Autonomous system (AS) is essentially a network that has different principles than networks or service providers to which it is connected. The network consists of a group of routing prefixes connected by an internet protocol controlled by the network operator. In order to be admitted as an autonomous system, the network must prove that it has a clearly defined routing policy. AS is then awarded the system autonomous number (ASN) to identify it.

Format and rules for changing messages between computer systems are called protocol. The protocol describes the syntax and vocabulary to be used in communication, as well as how the communication will be synchronized. It can also set the rules for signal verification and errors detection. Internet protocol (IP) is a protocol that makes up most of the Internet.

IP is responsible for moving the information packets between computer networks. To send these packets, the prefix of the IP or IP routing is used to the destination network in the same way as the postal address ensures that the letter reachednot the right recipient.

Like the postal service, the IPS group may have rules on how the information must be packed, sorted and routed to be sent. If the rules meet certain criteria, the IP group can be assigned an autonomous system number and become a public autonomous system. First, AS must have an internal routing plan that is clear to other autonomous systems. Secondly, other autonomous systems should be able to clearly find out which networks are achievable through the person concerned. In the end, the AS should be connected to more than one else.

There are three different categories of autonomous systems. Multihomed as it maintains a connection with multiple service providers. This allows the user to have policy different from the principles of service providers. The NSIT traofy systems provide connection to other networks. An example of this type of system is Internet services providers.

koThe uncomfortable system type is not a real autonomous system. It is connected only to one additional and should technically fall under the service providers. Stub can become its own autonomous system only if its principles differ sufficiently from the principles of the service provider.

ASN is assigned by regional Internet registers. These registers receive sets of numbers from the Office of the Assigned Number (IANA). Then the local groups assign local groups from these sets. The current tasks are listed on the Iana website.
