What Is Immunolabeling?

Immunolabeling refers to an antigen or antibody reaction performed by labeling an antibody or an antigen with fluorescein, an enzyme, a radioisotope, or an electron dense substance. With high sensitivity and specificity, it has been widely used. Early labeling technologies generally used chemical bond formation methods to couple labels with biological components with specific functional groups, but the number of biological components with specific functional groups was limited, which greatly limited the scope of application of biomarkers. Therefore, there is a need to develop a universal method capable of achieving specific binding between a marker and a biomolecule. [1]

Immunolabeling (immunolabelling technic)
Due to the different methods used, immunolabeling technologies are mainly divided into: immunofluorescence technology, radioimmunoassay, and enzyme labeling technology. Among them, immunofluorescence and radioimmunoassay are widely used. However, immunofluorescence is time-consuming and cannot be quantified and automated. The automated instruments required for radioimmunotechnology are expensive, the reagents used have a short half-life and can endanger human health. Immunoenzyme technology is a new technology that is sensitive, fast, simple, wide application range, no special equipment, and easy to grasp.
