What is a blue oak?

Blue oak, also known as quercus douglasii , Mountain Oak and Iron Oak, is a permanent, deciduous tree original in California. The blue oaks can be found in the middle and coastal parts of the state, with a habitat covered by 39 out of 58 districts in California. Its densest population can be found at the foot of the Sierra Nevada and the Coast Mountains.

Blue trees differ in height, depending on the environmental factors such as soil quality and climate. They grow slowly, only 1-3 inches (2.5-7.6 cm) per year, although growth processions up to 1 foot (30 cm). Mature blue oak usually reaches a height of 15 feet (4.5 m), but under the right conditions trees can reach up to 60 feet (18 m) or more. The highest blue oak in the recording is a tree in Alameda County with a height of 94 feet (28.7 m).

Scottish botanist David Douglas is credited by the name of a blue oak for a bluish shade on his wax leaves. These trees are well adapted to the warm and arid California climate. For example, the wax coating on the leaves helps to maintain moisture. They pass in areas that receive 15-30 inches (38-76 cm) annually. Excessive humidity can support the growth of fungi in the soil and these mushrooms can attack the roots of the trees. The superiority can seriously endanger the health of the tree, making it a bad choice for landscape areas that receive regular irrigation.

Like all oaks, blue oak produced, walnut fruit called acorns. Acorns Blue Oak are long and thin and at the end they are gently narrowing. ACORNS are an important source of PPoisoning for wildlife, including birds, squirrels and deer.

People also used Blue Oak's acorns for food and grind them into flour. Native Americans in the region are land to create flour that could be used to make bread. Other parts of the tree, such as bark and roots, were used for traditional medicines and weaving. Although it is no longer popular as a regular part of the diet, Acorn Mouré is still used in some Indian rituals and celebrations.
