What is a simple epithelium?

The epithelium is a cellular coverage of the inner and external surfaces of the body. Simple epithelium consists of one layer of cells and serves many roles in different areas of the body. One of its functions is the excretion of fluids that smear tissues to minimize friction. It also limits body tracts such as secretory cells that release stored chemicals; and absorbent cells that are effective in the absorption of substances. This membrane acts as a barrier in the prevention of tumor cells in attacking deeper tissues. Simple epithelium is a strong one cell layer. Depending on the shape and function of its cells, the simple epithelium can be divided into a simple spinocellular epithelium, a simple block epithelium, a simple column epithelium and a pseudostratified epithelium. The simple epithelium of this type is often permeable and is located where microscopic molecules pass through diffusion or filtration membranes. Simple spinocellular epithelium is found in capillaries; in the alveoli of the lungs where exchanginggas; And in the kidneys glomerulus, where urine begins to form.

Simple block epithelium is located in a single layer of Cubelike cells. The walnut cells have a spherical core in the middle. These cells perform complex functions such as absorption or secretion. Simple bloody epithelium is found in secretory parts of endocrine and exocrine glands, as well as in collection channels or kidney tubules.

As the name suggests, a simple column epithelium consists of a single layer of column cells that are elongated and in the shape of a column, reminiscent of skin cells. Simple column epithelium performs the absorption of nebovation. They are found by the lining of most of the organs of the digestive tract, including the stomach, small intestine and large intestine. Other areas of the body with simple column epithelium include the upper airways, the uterus of women and the central part of the spinal cord.

pseudostratified epithelium isIt consists of simple column epithelial cells arranged in one layer. The term "pseudostratified" is used because cell cross -section is falsely resemble more than one layer of cells. PSUEDostratified epithelium is involved in absorption or secretion. It is not unusual to find a simple epithelium of this type in the upper airways - nose and bronchi - as well as in the uterus and fallopian tubes of women.

Some other simple epithelial functions include lining of blood vessels and in cup cells that eliminate mucin, which dissolves in water to form mucus. The mucous membrane has formed declined microbes, dust azbyts into the tract. Mucus secretion can be stimulated by smoke, dust or other particles in the air.
