What Is the Lateral Hypothalamus?
The lateral hypothalamus refers to the lateral area of the hypothalamus. It has obvious effects on the regulation of food intake, drinking water, sexual behavior and emotion. Traditional theory holds that there is a satiety center and a hunger center in the hypothalamus, which control the behavior of stopping eating and starting eating, respectively. If both sides are destroyed, the experimental animal refuses to eat and even spit out the food in the mouth. Without special tube feeding measures, the experimental animal will starve to death. This area is called the Hunger Hub. [1]
