What is the basic stamp®?

The basic stamp® is a range of microcontrollers, ie small computing platforms that combine a microprocessor with other components. The processor and other components are included in one perimeter that can be connected to other boards or devices. The basic stamp® can be programmed using a relatively simple basic programming language variant. The products are popular in educational and electronic fans and were used in some commercial applications. Stamp® was introduced by Parallax Inc., although several other companies have since offered similar microcontrollers.

In the heart of the basic product line of Stamp® is a microcontroller, a lightweight computing platform that bundles of microprocessor functionality with other functions or components. These unique microcontrollers include a special type of memory called electrically deleted programmable memory only for reading (EEPROM), which is used for storage programs and chip called basic interpreter that translatesAtch programs in a format that the processor can understand. These components, along with different amounts of accidental access and other options, are packed on a disposable plate (PCB). Other plates and components of circuits can be connected to the PCB and have expanded the basic functionality of the microcontoller. Advanced users can even design their own circuits for maximum flexibility.

This microcontroller can be programmed using PBASIC, a modified version of the basic programming language. The basic language is one of the simplest and simplest languages for computer programming, which makes the basic stamp® attractive for the new electronics. The program can be created on a personal computer and downloads to the basic stamp® using a serial cable.

Although the basic stamp® is often referred to as a platform for beginners or input levels, it was usedIt as a basis for some extremely innovative projects. Their small size, probably postage stamp, causes them suitable for use in small or portable devices. They are popular in education and robotics; Electronic fans used the platform to build everything from traffic signals to meteorological stations. They were also used in various commercial and industrial applications, including wastewater management systems and aircraft cab lighting.

The original device was released in 1992 by Parallax Inc., a company based in California. The more capable version, Basic Stamp® 2, was released in 1995 and has been sold in different configurations with different processor speeds and memory options since then. Parallax owns the basic name Stamp®, Alenekter other companies produce similar platforms that are launched on the market as "compatible" or "cloning" products.
