What is Peak Oil?

"Petroleum peak" originates from the "bell-shaped curve" of mineral resources discovered by Hubbert, a famous American petroleum geologist in 1949. Hubbert believes that as a non-renewable resource, oil production in any region will reach its peak; after reaching its peak, oil production in the region will inevitably begin to decline. This is the core of peak oil theory.
