What is Athelia?
Athelia is a condition in which one or both nipples are missing. This is an innate state, which means that it is present from birth. It is not possible to develop Athelia later in life and the loss of one or both nipples due to an accident, illness or surgery is not considered to be Athelia. During the sixth week of pregnancy, the growing fetus begins to develop the mammary gland, and if it does not normally betray, the child may be born with Athelia. The occurrence of this condition can also be traced only after the period immediately before or after birth, as the nipples develop outside the breast tissue at this time. Occasionally, the child could be born with amastia, which is the lack of all pectoral tissues on one or both sides, including the absence of warts.eed. If the condition is isolated anomaly, this is the most serious problem for people with a condition. Athelia, however, is associated with a number of more serious diseases, including the Polish sequence, ectodermal dysplasia and Yunis-Varon syndrome, all of which are congenital.
In the Polish sequence, the thoracic muscle is deformed or is missing on one side of the body, which affects the development of nearby muscles and hand on the same side. Infants with this condition often lack ribs and show increased straps between the fingers, which worsens motor ability. Girls usually miss breasts and nipple on the affected side. This failure is classified as a non -specific defect of the development field, and as such there is no known cause. The Polish sequence is a rare condition that affects the right side of the body almost twice as often as left.
The problem in the development of the Ectoderm can cause studies in people who are affected by ectodermal dysplasia or yunis-varon syndrome. Ectoderm is an outer layer of a very young embryo and later turns into the skin, nervous system, teeth and sweat. If Ectoderm fails to evolve correctly, abnormalities can show these parts of the body. A nipple that is a modified sweat gland could be missingon one or both sides in people affected by some of these conditions.
