When should I move from the formula to baby food?

Usually, children should gradually move from formula to baby food over the months. In fact, it is highly recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) that a newborn aged four to six months should only have breast milk or recipe. From now on, if the child shows physical signs of readiness, a slow introduction to solids and weaning may be initiated. The standard time frame for the child to stop receiving the formula and drinking cow's milk is usually after the first birthday.

There are several physical symptoms that the parent or guardian must first notice before the child is shut down from the formula to baby food. The child should be able to sit either assisted or without assistance and at least doubled. It is also necessary to control the neck, which means that the child should be able to keep his head without help and be able to look around. The tension reflex must also be gone, otherwise the child can only spit food. It is also an important that the child is ableLit that he no longer wants to eat, which is usually done by moving the head away or by pushing the food with his hands.

As soon as the readiness for weaning from the formula to baby food has been established, ordinary rice or oat cereal or only vegetables and fruits may be slowly introduced. Usually one new meal should be introduced every week until it is introduced enough to serve mixed versions with one other new addition of food. A wider range of foods with chunk -league textures and a number of ingredients may be introduced by nine months if no added salts, fats or sugars have been added. By 12 months, the child should be able to eat food fingers with supervision and can be introduced whole cow's milk.

In 12 months, the parent or legal representative may ask a pediatrician whether the child shows the readiness to fully move from the formula to the baby food and start drinking cow's milk. Once the child is approvedIn order to start drinking cow's milk, there are two ways that the child can be shut down. In some cases, the child can without further assist from the formula. However, most children require the weaning process.

Some pediatricians recommend mixing whole cow's milk and recipe together to start the shutdown process. It is important to note that the formula mixes with water and not just cow's milk. Within four weeks, more cow's milk is usually used compared to the formula until there is no other formula in the bottle or sippy cup. At this point, the child should be fully switched from the formula to baby food.
