What are pedestrian signals?

All over the world, pedestrian signals are used to help motorists and pedestrians to share the road. The combination of colored lights and signals is used to stop the operation of the vehicle in one direction, start in another and inform pedestrians if it is safe to exceed the street. Surprisingly, the real symbols used in pedestrians are relatively consistent around the world.

There are two classes of pedestrian signals: a common operation and a reserved pedestrian crossing. Signals for pedestrians common operation usually occur at intersections. Traffic signals are used to control the vehicle's operation, and pedestrian signals are used to ensure that pedestrians can safely cross the road. In this scenario, vehicles and pedestrians have reserved signals.

traffic signals for vehicles have red, yellow and green lights. One light is displayed at the same time and changes on the timer. The lights for each street are coordinated, so the operation only moves one way of intersection at the same time. In the transport withIgnatius exists minor changes, but colors are universal. The red signal means stopping, yellow is yield and green should continue.

pedestrian signals at the intersection are also coordinated with traffic signals, but are a completely different set of signals. The most common pedestrian signals are pictograms. To indicate that the road is safe to cross, the image of a person used, and to indicate that the road is dangerous. In the United States, some signals use English words "don't go" and "walking" instead of pictograms. However, this type of signal is slowly replaced by more versatile pictograms.

In many countries, other functions are added to the signals that provide more information for pedestrians. For example, a walk signal can turn into a flashing hand five seconds before the signal. In other places, countdown from ten to zero is used to indicate the amount of time remaining before ZMthe signal. The purpose of these two enhancements is to give pedestrians to know how much time remains to decide if there is enough time to safely cross the road.

The reserved pedestrian crossing is located in the part of the road without the intersecting street. The pedestrian can stop the vehicle transport by pressing the button that triggers the flashing yellow lights. Once the vehicles stop, pedestrians can exceed the road. This type of crossing is often located in front of schools and shopping centers.
