What is a piston ring compressor?

The piston ring compressor is a tool used to press the piston rings on the piston to fit into the piston inside the cylinder walls. Usually made of spring or machined aluminum ring, the piston compressor is usually oiled to make the piston and rings slip easily. There are two basic styles of the piston ring compressor: an adjustable type that can be made to match many pistons in different sizes, and a non -sitting type that is made to match one particular application and size of the piston. The piston rings are also responsible for creating the compression needed from starting the piston engine. The piston rings, which are made of spring steel material, must be compressed firmly to fit into the walls of the cylinders. Using a piston ring compressor, the mechanic is able to compress excessive piston rings so that the piston slide inside the wall of the cylinder. When the piston leaves the piston ring compressor, the piston rings extend from the groove of the piston ring andIt pushes firmly on the walls of the engine cylinder.

When the piston rings are placed on the piston, the gaps at the end of the piston rings are disagreeable to match each other perfectly. This creates an increased cylinder compression, resulting in an increase in performance for the cylinder. The wall of the cylinder is lubricated, as well as the piston and rings to allow the unit to allow the cylinder to slide freely during the installation. Around the piston is placed around the piston and is tightened if necessary. The piston, the connecting rod and the piston rings are then placed in the cylinder until the compressor establishes the contact with the upper part of the cylinder block.
