What is biliary drainage?
Biliary drainage is a surgery that is performed on a patient suffering from blocking one or more bile ducts. The bile that helps in the digestion of fats is produced in the liver and passes through the bile duct into the bladder before reaching the small intestine. If one of the bile canals becomes blocked and the bile cannot pass independently from the liver, it must usually be released by a doctor. If the bile is backed up in the liver and toxins cannot go to the intestine, it may be dangerous to the patient. The bile has a yellowish color and the patient develops on yellowing of the skin and eyes known as jaundice. The patient could also experience nausea, poor appetite or develop serious itching. Another procedure known as magnetic removal would also be used by Sonance (MRI). Once the doctor has determined the location of the blocking, the plans to proceed biliary drainage can be made.
If the patient requires biliary drainage, it will usually behave to be taken to the hospital. A doctor known as a radiologist will proceed by inserting a needle through the skin near the ribs. The needle passes through the liver and into blocked bile ducts. The needle then passes through the needle and bile; A plastic tube or catheter is placed on the wire and is inserted into the bile ducts. The wire is removed and the catheter remains in the pipeline.
The catheter manually releases the bile from the patient and into the collection bag. Sometimes, if the catheter reaches the bile, the blocking will be divided, allowing the bile normally to faint through the pipeline. If the bile is scarred or cannot remain open alone, the doctor can insert a mesh cylinder known as a stent. Sometimes instead of blocking, the bile duct can develop a small hole that allows the bile to escape into the abdomen. In this case, the doctor would also put the catheter in the channel until the pipeline could heal.
After the trilliating procedure, the bile should exhaust the bile ducts and all symptoms such as jaundice should gradually leave. If it was inserted into the bile duct withThis will stay there. The doctor determines when to remove the catheter.
