What is Arnica Salve?
Arnica Salve is a product of leather treatment made of flower and sometimes rhizome plants Arnica Montana. In Europe and Central Asia, Arnica has been used since the 16th century to calm down the slight suffering of the skin and muscle pain. Native Americans also used a flower for medical purposes.
Arnica Montana is a flower that is originally from the mountains of sub-arctic regions, including Northern Europe, Central Asia, Canada and the North USA, the flower is clear, dark yellow and shaped similarly to Daisy, with Fuzzy and Sparse Folliage. Other common names are Wolfsbane, Mountain Tobacco, Leopard's Bane and Mountain Daisy. Flowers for medicinal products are harvested at the end of spring shortly after flowering and rhizomes can be collected at the end of autumn when the plants died back. If Arnica is not in highly diluted homeopathic preparation, it should never be taken internally. The plant is toxic in high doses. Lower doses can cause dizziness, nausea, heart palpitations or tremor. Arnica Salve should also not be used on broken, crying skin or skin ulcers to enter the bloodstream.
