What is flea?
The writing flea is a small crustacean in the Talitridae family that can cause a painful bite. There are several different types of sand fleas, all of which live in sandy coastal areas. They feed early in the morning or evening and attack anything, including humans and animals that are approaching them. Different types of flea sand are known as Mole Crab, Fly and Chigoe Flea.
Life cycle Sand flea begins when a woman lays eggs. This occurs after it was fed with blood that is necessary for her reproduction. They usually put about 50 eggs a day, which they carry until they hatch into the larva a few days later. After hatching, the hoods grow inside cocoons from which they appear as adult fleas. Depending on weather conditions and food supplies, this process may take anywhere from two weeks to a few months.
These types of fleas are light brown in color, which is very difficult to hideá in Písek. Most of them are also very small, less than 1/8 inches (3.5 mm) long, although the mole crab is larger and can be over 1 inch (2.5 cm). Despite their small size, they are able to jump up to 16 inches (40 cm) to supply a bite that can cause intense itching and pain. Sand fleas can carry leishmaniasis, a dangerous kind of malaria. It was also known to plunge into the skin like chiggers, which can lead to dangerous bacterial infections.
font bites can be prevented by spraying the body with an insect repellent, which contains a deet before visiting the beach. The swarms of these pests can be detected because they create a loud, highly slipped sound in large numbers. This sound should be considered a warning that beachgoers leave the area to avoid bite.
It was known that a larger sand flea known as a crab fed and even killed very large fish and whales. Numerous sand fleas attract them and eat holes through their bodies. Once they reach the interior of the fish, feed on blood and meat.
When animals or humans are feeding, sand fleas consume plankton and organic matter. This includes the rotting seaweed that gather on their antennas when the tide rolls and retreats. They remain in areas where sand is wet and slip into it to remain warm. Paddling is in the middle of summer and it is at this time that large colonies of sand fleas can be found in the sand.
