What is echidna?

Echidna is the only known mammal with the laying of an egg except asking for which it is somewhat related. Both come from the order of monotrems, although they differ very much in type and behavior. There are four Echidna in Australia and New Guinea, all. Three live exclusive in New Guinea and belong to the families of Zaglossus. It is a western long -term, long -term Sir David and East for a long time. The fourth species belongs to the genus Tachyglossus and it is a short -term echidna, which is located throughout Australia and New Guinea. The short shape is the smallest of four species, but adapts well to a number of different environments. This can be found in the snowy mountains or through dry areas of outback.

The size varies between individuals and species, but male echidna will have an average weight of approximately £ 13 (5.89 kg) and the woman weighs about 10 pounds (4.53 kg). The length is between 1 and 1.5 feet (30.48-45.72 cm). Life is exceptionally long and can be up to 50 years in captivity or about 40 years in the wild.

Echidna is very unusual in its breeding techniques. Mother has a case in which she will keep her newly laid eggs. He then leaves hatching in the housing until it begins to develop sharp barbed hair. Echidna does not have teats, but rather excludes milk from its mammary glands, that the newborn simply licks her mother's abdomen. Echidna, called Puggle, will continue this unusual nursing until it is about a year old.

Mature echidna lives on a diet of small mistakes, especially ants, termites and worms. It is an exceptional excavator with strong regulations. Yet it is a frequent prey of dings and big eagles. His only defense is to twist the ball or try to go underground because he has no teeth to defend.
