What causes changes in white matter?

There are many causes of changes in white matter; Some are natural factors that occur normally and are generally harmless. Other causes may be neurological diseases that can specifically focus on the brain. There are also some external factors that can cause changes in white matter, such as recreational drugs, inhalants and other substances that are harmful to human overall health. Almost all cells inside the human body are constantly renewed, including neurons placed in white matter. However, the regeneration process slows down when a person ages and can sometimes lead to changes, such as lesions or spots similar to the scar in the brain or eventually the death of neurons. These changes are said to start at the age of 60 and reduce the cognitive ability of a person. That is why many older people experience oblivion and worsening and are sometimes described as senile.

diseases known to be "degenerative" can also bring changes in white matter, sometimes slowly and sometimes in quick progresi. Examples of these diseases are multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer's disease. White mass is a "brain connection" system that connects cells inside the gray matter. When the experience of white matter changes or does not regenerate correctly, it cannot transmit messages to gray mass bodies and can not be processed information such as muscle movements and memory. Other health conditions that may affect white matter include hypertension, strokes and serious migraines.

Abuse of substances can also cause a significant deterioration and changes in white matter, especially with continuous use. Inhalants, substances and medicines that are introduced by inhalation are particularly dangerous because they shoot towards the brain faster. These are considered toxic to the body and when they enter the brain, they disrupt the communication process between gray and white and eventually destroy its neurons. Examples of these inhalants are methamphetamine, heroin and even cigarettes. Some inhalants may also come in the form of household products such asHair paint, dust and insect repellent and nail polish remover.

white matter changes can be delayed, prevented and sometimes treated. Wiring in mentally deleting activities and games can keep the brain functioning properly. A healthy lifestyle through the right diet and exercise can also help keep strokes and hypertension at bay. It is also advisable to avoid not saying such as drug use, smoking and alcohol. In patients with degenerative diseases, doctors usually recommend treatment or medicines to regulate and reduce the effects of the disease.
