What are the standards of green buildings?

Green Building Standards focus on making residential and commercial buildings more gentle, more sustainable and healthier for their passengers. Many builders and designers implement the standards of green buildings in their designs and create buildings that use environmentally friendly materials, are highly energy efficient and have excellent air quality. The US slowly adopted the standards of green buildings, probably due to the abundance of cheap energy and building materials, but with increasing popularity of "ecological" is more and more common practice. Their preamble reports their obligation to observe the following five main values:

  • Sustainability: The building should use sustainable resources and technology.
  • Group: Design should show respect to the community and cultures in it that coexistes in it. Plans should be carried out with regard to all socio -economic levels.
  • Inclusivity: USGBC supports community and community design.
  • Progress: Design BY was supposed to have quantifiable environmental impact results on the environment, community and economy of the area.
  • Connection: The design of the green building should respect the connection between man and nature and to recognize its administration.

Responsibility, transparency, management, innovation and integrity are the basis of green buildings standards. In August 1998, USGBC established management in the field of energy and environmental design (LEED), the system for designing and implementing the standards of green buildings. Leed sets up voluntary, uniform standards that take into account the entire design of the building. Using a scoring system, it rewards the builders whose innovation in the design of the green building is in the field. The lee of D is to make the standards of green buildings in a feasible way of building a mainstream, not just environmentalists.

There are five areas in which the building is evaluated using Leed: SHAPInsible areas, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and sources and quality of the environment. The levels of certification begin for certification and progress to silver, gold and platinum, which is the highest.

Many of them think that the standards of green buildings are cost costs. Although there is a certain increase in the cost of construction, the supporters of the green buildings quote studies that show savings on the road. Energy savings with green buildings owners are reflected in lower costs, the ability to rent commercial and living spaces for more and healthier and happier tenants. According to one report, the initial investment of two percent in addition to the design of the green building is 20% savings out of the total cost of building over the Life building.

Another report showed that investment of $ 4 (USD) per square foot will receive approximately $ 58 per square foot in 20 years. The benefits are quantifiable in health and productivity, operating and maintenance costs, public savingsof the services and savings in emissions. Buildings built with the standards of green buildings show an increase in workers' productivity by two to 16%.

Some buildings that follow the standards of green buildings, use geothermal heating and cooling systems, gray water or black water recycling systems, skylights or other natural lighting, sun or wind energy, increased ventilation, wood sustainable products and twice filtered air. Building fragments are often recycled for other builders who can be used in future projects.

So far 49 cities in 15 countries have incorporated the legislation and building regulations standards Leed. Nine federal initiatives were adopted in federal agencies, including the Agency for Environmental Protection, The Department of Energy and the Ministry of Defense, among others. Office buildings, apartment buildings, houses, government buildings and schools may benefit from using green building standards. Recently USGBC raised a designer's challengeOut, planners and builders to present their ideas for the green light reconstruction of New Orleans. Globally, there are several projects registered by LeED, using standards of green buildings in 24 countries.
