What is chromallocyte?
Chromallocyte is a mobile nanorobot in the shape of a diamond, consisting of about four trillion atoms. Its purpose is to be a vector of gene delivery better than viruses (usually used today today), which offers a much greater degree of accuracy and control for the experimenter. Although chromallocyte, designed by Robert Freitas, a pioneer of nanotechnology, has not yet been produced, seems to be feasible in the next few decades. Scientists have already designed MEMS (microelectromechanical systems) that can maneuver through the human bloodstream. Nems (nanoelectromechanical systems) are only a matter of time.
Chromallocytes are designed to perform all chromosome substitution therapy procedures. These robots would penetrate the cell wall, walked into the nucleus, removed all the chromatin content and replaced them by chromosomes tailored in the laboratory using artificial proboscis. Chromallocyte is about 5 microns long and 4 microns strong, barely malilaity to fit comfortably into the buna nuclear core.
Because so many diseases are caused by defective chromosomes or defective expression of the gene, chromosome substitution therapy type of chromallocytes should stop the potential, including the killer number one, heart disease. However, effective implementation of substitution therapy with chromosome would require many trillion nanobots to cooperate. To build such a large number of such small devices, we would need a device that can be involved in production for atomic accuracy. Many companies and universities are currently working in this direction.
Chromallocyte is one of several medical nanorobots designed in detail by Robert Freitas. Others include respirocyte, artificial red blood cell, microbiovore, artificial white blood cell, vasculocyte that would be a clecirulating system and a clottocyte, an artificial plate to accelerate blood clotting. All are a largeBehold in the book nanomedicine .
